Transitioning from Grandparent Care to an Orlando Preschool

Monday, March 21, 2016

Having your mom and/or dad care for your child is such a luxury while they are young and you are getting back to work. However, there are many reasons your child should start to transition into a preschool, including the many benefits that an Orlando preschool can provide.

Benefits of Preschool

Childcare centers and preschools are designed with children’s development and safety in mind. They have child-size furnishings and educational materials and often include extra safety precautions not found in the home.

  • Teachers are required to participate in specific training in caring and educating children.

  • It gives children the opportunity to develop their social skills with other children. Skills they’ll need for the rest of their lives in sports, work and everyday interactions.

  • Most children today enter school with some sort of preschool experience. There is an expectation that children come to school with the minimal skills of being able to function in a group, work independently, and follow directions. These skills are incorporated into preschool programs.

Tips for Transitioning to Childcare

Whether your child is transitioning from grandparent care or just starting childcare or preschool for the first time, here are some tips to help the transition:

  • Visit the preschool ahead of time with your child. Ask to meet their teachers and rooms ahead of time.

  • Ask about gradually transitioning from grandparent care to childcare by having the grandparents pick your child up or spend some time with them in the morning and then drop them off.

  • The more communication you can have with your child’s teacher, the more you can stay connected with how they’re reacting and how you can help them adjust better.
